Meet at Eakin Park on Prosperity Rd. Fairfax to join a naturalist-led walk to the pond to identify frogs by sound and features. Celebrate National Frog Month! Bring one flashlight/family. Children must be accompanied by a registered adult. Canceled if rain.

Investigate Bugg Creek for salamanders, crayfish and more in this catch-and-release adventure. Learn about erosion and other environmental issues affecting aquatic wildlife. Cancelled in case of severe weather. Wear closed toes shoes that can get wet and clothes that can get dirty because we’re wading in the stream. Use dip nets to collect creatures to examine.

Enjoy a sit-down tea reminiscent of elegant Garden teas without the heat and insects. Meet butterflies and ladybugs, which contribute to lovely gardens. Make a flower crown and learn flower lore. Children must be accompanied by a registered adult.

Nocturnal insects can bother, amuse or confuse. Find out more about attracting or repelling these creatures and enjoy an African tale of why mosquitoes buzz. Make s’mores at the campfire. Canceled in case of inclement weather. Children must be accompanied by a registered, paying adult.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.Today’s the day the teddy bears have their picnic at Hidden Oaks!Bring your teddy bear to join our stories, songs, games and lightrefreshments for humans and bears. Activities moved indoors in case of rain. Before our adventure, we will disguise everyone as bears to catch our ‘wild friends’ unawares as in the song. Picnic treats for children only. Join a naturalist and explore the forest and stream to learn about botany, biology, insects and ecology using a Fairfax County-based full-color 50+ page workbook. Take the workbook home to continue exploring in your own neighborhood.
