Field Trip: The Cottontail Express!

March 14, 2012

What do Peter Cottontail, George Burns and Johnny Appleseed all have in common? A special date on the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad!

April and May 2012 will be exciting months in Elkins, West Virginia as the New Tygart Flyer pulls out of the historic Downtown Elkins Depot with a madcap bunch of fairytale and hilarious characters on board.

They are part of the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad’s full menu of new special events planned for the 2012 excursion season.

Kicking off the season, Peter Cottontail hops aboard on April 7. Follow this mischievous rabbit as he meanders through Farmer McGregor’s gardens to find on-board Easter eggs. Later that same evening, the inaugural Comedy Club Dinner Train features an improv extravaganza and a great dinner, too!

Along with the potpourri of special trains and events scheduled throughout the spring and summer, the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad also operates four unique trains from two historic depots (Elkins & Durbin) from April through December.

Choose from wilderness excursions into the Monongahela National Forest and along the banks of the Greenbrier, Tygart Valley and Shaver’s Fork rivers on your choice of chugging steam or streamlined diesel locomotives. Dine on the Mountain Explorer Dinner Train just like in the good ‘ol days and be part of a popular Murder Mystery ride.

On the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad, the choices are endless and the experience – well, it’s one in a million!
